Chapter: Taking Responsibility

I don't know...I just feel like he really WANTS buffy to be in charge. It makes him feel more secure. Whether or not that's healthy isn't really my debate...but he's going to be upset if ANYONE hurts or upsets buffy, even giles.
Spike won't stand up for himself, not right now, but he might stand up for buffy. If he somehow came to Buffy's rescue, he would get some of his own back, and the dynamic between them would become more clear to the others.
Yes, Buffy hurt him, but the physical part of it she thought he was "evil spike' trying to get one over on her. and the rest was just confusing as hell. You sleep with your former mortal enemy who tried to kill you multiple times...you have issues with men leaving or hurting you afterwards...how the hell does SHE know who or what he is. (I know this is verbose) but this is NOTHING compared to the way buffy behaved toward spike On the show.
And I really think spike WANTS her to be in charge. Part of really being free is being allowed to make choices whether they are "correct" according to others or not. It's like buffy honoring his wish to sometimes call her "mistress" Not allowing him to call her that, to force freedom, isn't freedom, it's still controlling him.
Buffy gets that. I'm not sure that Giles and the others, especially Tara do...and not you or your writing, but the characters themselves are pissing me off, because they keep trying to pull spike out, but he doesn't WANT to be drawn out right yet. They need to back off. Especially tara. I've never been so pissed at Tara, but she's just really being pushy with the evil glares and buffy's an evil abuser. And that's just not true.
Both spike and buffy have a complicated history, but they have each other. Ok sorry this was so long. I just really like this story and wanted to clarify what my other review was all about.

you know, zoe, i think you're absolutely right on most points... i'm glad you said that b/c it lets me know i'm portraying the characters as i intended...your interpretation of spike's behavior in the story is very accurate...whether it's right or wrong, people get comfortable in a certain situation, and it can be hard to try and move beyond that -- even if that situation is bad...and buffy is very confused, obviously, for a lot of reasons...
But on the other hand, i think it's only realistic that the others would not see that right off. they have no idea of what goes on behind closed doors between these two...i know it's totally outside of reality, but if you suddenly found out someone *owned* a person like she owns spike, and had hit them before, and was currently sleeping with them...based on spike's behavior with her in front of them...i think although her friends don't really understand the situation, their reactions are understandable

Loved this chapter. A lovely Buffy/Spike talk, I just hope Spike will trust her to not hurt him again, and that buffy meant what shesaid. And Giles... I hope he's not too hard on Buffy, but I guess I have to read to find out. I'm looking forward to your next chapter. ~Nina

ok so i knwo spike is all emotionally abused and whatever.. but he needs to relax a little, he's annoying me in the way that he's so devoted to her both as a lover and a slave.. and she needs to i dno.. not be so "oh woe is me?" kinda.. i dno.. just my opinion.. i wanna see what has happened to riley! *gasp* (dodges flying tomatoes!!)
lol...i know my tales get a bit on the over-angsty side... *rolls eyes at self* riley's activities of the moment will be revealed :)...and i don't throw tomatoes...rocks maybe .... ;)

I hope spike rescues her from Giles. I know that sounds absurd, but he has vampire senses, he'll sense her or smell her tears or SOMETHING.
