Chapter: Chapter 9

Brilliant idea and thanks for writing and I enjoyed reading this story. I liked how you wrote Willow and Buffy realizing that Giles did the wrong thing by denying Fred help. I also liked how you wrote the conversation between Buffy and Nina.

I come back to this, anid I'm still so fucking impressed. It moves so easily from scene to scene, like a perfect screenplay, mixing drama and humor. The dialog is edgy, yet terse, and the narrative fully supports it.The pace never stalls. The conclusion is an unexpected delight. In some ways, this is about as perfect as a BtvS fanfiction gets.

Glad I found the last chapter here - enjoyed reading this a second time.  You certainly can write a great harsh truth speaking Spike - even if his harsh words for Buffy were coming from that place of great hurt in his heart.  Terrific continuation of the death and transformation of Fred into Illyria.

I loved this story soo much!  I'm so tired of all the stories where Buffy finds out Spike is alive and she gets all pissed with him like it's his fault and he's the one that has to apologize to her.  I'm so glad you brought up a lot of Buffy's faults in this story and made her realize some hard truths about the way she acted towards Spike.  He totally deserved to have Buffy fight for him for a change instead of the other way around.

I still love this story, four times through, for its character insights, lively sense of progress, and good humor. Spike's wonderful mixed metaphors, Angel's dry wit and obliviousness, Willow's liveliness, Ilona's diplomacy, the Immortal's typically Roman love of public drama: all there.

I liked this story. Maybe a little to much blame on Buffy and Giles but I have enjoyed it.

Thumbs down. Way down. Buffy is apparently such a prancing light weight that she gets dissed or bitch-slapped by everybody this side of Dawn & Andrew, while Giles & Buffy are apparently collectively guitly of every conceivable sin & responsible for every disaster except disco & the metor that killed off the dinosaurs.

Not to mention you're the 2d person I've read who believes that a TA who romances a student is a major sinner with a direct line to Beelzebub. It doesn't get him a gold star, but it's minor league compared to the world-class evil so prevalent in the Whedonverse.

Loved this story. I liked the fact that you wrote about how Angel made a mistake when he said Buffy's eyes were blue in The Girl in Question. Dumb writers hehe. Or unless they mean it to be what Spike said, that Angel isn't really in love with her anymore. I like that explanation a lot better. Actually, I really do believe that Buffy and Angel aren't in love anymore. It seems pretty obvious that Angel by then had moved on to Cordy although he never got to reall start anything with her. Nina, I sorta like her, but seems to me like she's just a sex toy for Angel.

I loved this story - in spite of other works you have written, this is one of the best (maybe even with the capital *THE*). You seem to usually stretch chapters and story's longer than you planned at the beginning. But this had just the right amount of everything.
Actually I have problems with writing bad reviews, so I am not even going to try. Maybe the only thing that could have made this even grater, was if at the end of telephone conversation with her sister Buffy would mention something like this:

"Hey Dawn? If you see Andrew give a punch from me. He new !"

But that is only a little satisfaction giving image and nothing major, even better if when or if you choose to write a sequel make it from Dawns point of view. She really is the one who inherited her mothers amazing dictionary of every expression and its meaning when dealing with William the Bloody.

Great story. Love the payback on Giles. His refusal to consider helping Fred always pissed me off. Nice Buffy groveling too. The ending with Willow made me laugh out loud. Just excellent.
Thank you!

Giles certainly had a hard time coming and the AtS bunch were just the ones to step in and let him have it.

Likewise, Buffy was overdue to be the one doing the chasing in that relationship. As for Willow, having her right there in Italy, it just seemed like too good an opportunity to miss. Of course, it went right over the head of those people who missed the earlier series.

LOVE IT!!! What a GREAT twist at the end with it being John Cusack...great Willow in this scene. This was an ingenius story idea and I love the way that you played it out. Great job with the staying to character. I especially love the way Buffy went publc about her feelings for Spike. :)
Oops! Sorry, honey! I thought I had replied to this ages ago, but since I'm not actually posting anything here at the moment I haven't been checking on a regular basis. Sigh, it was so much easier when the notification emails used to have a link.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the fic in general. As for John Cusack, Rome seemed too close an approximation to Florence for me to pass up on the idea once it occurred to me.

And Buffy and Spike are both so stubborn, and Buffy is so intent on judging things on how they look that there was just no way that the pair of them were going to fall into each other's arms straight away.

Yeah, it's fun to imagine Xander's face when he gets that message.

Thanks again, sweetie, and many apologies for not getting back to you earlier. I'm not normally that remiss.

Interesting ending...which could lead to a sequel. Glad you got Spike and Buffy together (nice touch with Dawn), although I would have had Angel incapacitated (via Nina) for his role in hitting Buffy, general jerkiness. So...John Cusak.
Sorry for the lateness of the reply. All my BSV bookmarks have only just begun working.

There is a possibility of a sequel, though at the moment I'd have to say it's unlikely.

Angel, I would say was perfectly entitled to hit Buffy back. After all, she has a tendency to hit first and assume despite the fact she's not as fragile as she looks that no one is going to hit her back. Really SHE needs to learn that that isn't acceptable and not hit people to begin with, rather than being outraged when anyone retaliates. Of course, as for most of the rest of it, he was being an idiot.

John Cusack as per Willow's "Anywhere but here..." back in 'The Dark Age' from S2.

I love how Nina pointed out things to Buffy and her comment to Angel when he said he wasn’t stalking her. Buffy chose very wisely when Spike told her to prove that she loved him. Dawn was the only one he would trust to tell the truth and then with her adding the picture and message to Xander really pushed the point home. They have a long way to go but with Buffy taking the steps she has taken and with Spike knowing that she really didn’t know that he was alive they have made a good start. I loved the ending with Willow, it was perfect. Thanks for such an enjoyable fic.
Thanks, honey! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. As for the ending, I think it leaves people scratching their heads wondering what the heck I'm talking about, but those who get the reference seem to like it.

I'm a little confused by the end, but I loved the story itself :D
You need to have seen and remember an episode from S2 called 'The Dark Age' to understand the last part. I couldn't resist it, but I knew that some people wouldn't get the reference. Glad you enjoyed the rest of it.

Cut to school. The camera pans down from above a tree to Buffy and
Willow sitting on a bench.

Buffy: I'm on a beach, but not one of those American beaches, one of
those island beaches where the water's way too blue, and I'm laying on
my towel, and it's just before sunset, and Gavin Rossdale's massaging my
feet!

Willow: Oh, that's good! Uh, I'm in Florence, Italy, I've rented a
scooter that's parked outside, and I'm in a little restaurant eating
ziti, and there are no more tables left, so they have to seat this guy
with me, and it's John Cusack!

Buffy: Ooo! Very impressive. You have such an eye for detail.

Willow: 'Cause with the ziti!

Xander: (shows up) What are you two up to?

Buffy: Just having a quick game of 'Anywhere But Here'.

Xander: Ooohhh. Amy Yip at the waterslide park.

Willow: You never come up with anything new.

Xander: I'm just not fickle like you two, okay? I'm constant in my
affections. Amy Yip at the waterslide park!

Thank you, kind sir! Glad you liked it.

Internet dropped me when I tried to do this the first time.

LOVED this chapter. Nina's verbal smackdown, Spike's verbal smackdown, Illyria's assessment - all genius. And adding in John Cusack at the end? Priceless.
Even Angel got in on the "Buffy is stupid" train.

Using Dawn for proof was the right choice - the only person Spike would believe that's still alive. One, she never played him, and two, she's in on the sisterly confessions.

Buffy has lots of making up to do, but at least she's finally realizing it....since, obviously, she never considered how it all looked from Spike's perspective for so long.
Lol, I think Angel was more on the "Buffy isn't going to hit me and get off scot free" train, but they're close enough.

Like you say, Buffy's been surrounded by people who are all inclined to go "Poor Buffy!" and regard everything as being Spike's fault, assuming he took advantage of her when she was depressed and so on... Nina rather blew Buffy's little self-pity party out of the water, letting her know how it all looked from an unbiased point of view. They've got a long way to go but, hopefully, they're finally giving it a realistic chance.

lol....*love* the ending...that has got to be the best ending ever pet....love it!!! totally unexpected, and beautifully done tale :)
It just seemed like a scene that had to be done. In the same way I knew as I started writing Chapter 1 that Spike was going to shoot Giles, by the time I got to Chapter 5 I knew the story was going to end with Willow's Anywhere but Here moment.

Glad you liked it. Thanks, honey!

I hope they get things worked out between them - seems there's a way to go! Love the John Cusack back ref.
With those two there always is... well, unless you spend even if you spend four years writing a fic.

The John Cusack thing just seemed too good to pass up.

Glad you liked it, honey. Thanks!

This was wonderfully satisfying (would love mor of a smack down on Giles and a confrontation scene with Andrew though *G*)! LOVE Nina!! Woo hoo with her cut to the chase comments to Buffy and her no nonsense attitude toward Angel. Spike sure had reason to not believe Buffy and he put it well in his speech to Nina. Really well told tale here.

Kathleen
Lol! Well, there have been enquiries about a sequel. Not planning one any time soon, but I'm not completely ruling it out.

Angel's new beginning would have been doomed from the start if Nina let him dictate both their lives, so I gave her a bit of backbone, the rest just followed on from there.

It really would have made a world of difference if Buffy had shown any sign of acknowledgement before that, but she acted as if their relationship didn't exist outside of Spike's basement.

Thank you, honey! Really glad you liked it.

OH MY GOD! *worships you*
The "make me believe you" line was fantastic enough, but then you had to top it with that "Anywhere but here" ending.
Sheer brilliance!
Thanks, honey!

Buffy really was overdue to have to put her money where her mouth is... and the ending was just too good to pass up, even if it might go over some people's heads, if they don't remember the scene.

Hugs!

And now i have your answer. In round 4 of Fang Fetish you are nominated for Best Author!
Thanks, honey! I'll try to sort out the link thing later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Hugs!

OMG you are my idol! You just had Willow run into John Cusack at the WH party. Yeah I know you know what you did but OMG that is so freaking fab ending, Beutiful beutiful story!
Glad you liked it, honey! A fair proportion don't actaully get the reference so it sort of goes over their heads, but it seemed the right way to tie things up to me... Okay, so Rome rather than Florence and no scooter, but it seemed close enough to me...

Thank you!

::laughs hysterically, to the confusion of the other sutdents in the study lounge::

That has to be one of the best endings ever. Wonderful story.
Thank you, honey! Really glad you liked it... and I just couldn't resist the 'Anywhere but Here' moment.
