it's not only the story but the words and voice that count - and your use of words is wonderful -

Well lucky for me, I haven't read any of the other stories, so I won't be hackneyed to me. Would have expected Dawn to be really broken up about Spike's death, maybe she's just covering, I hope so anyway. Wonder what this is going to mean for Buffy. Enjoying this, thanks.

I wonder when exactly Buffy had that conversation with Spike, and if it was real or just a product of her imagination. It was telling in a lot of ways about the nature of their relationship and just how vareful they needed to be with each other regarding somethings. I wonder how Buffy is going to react when she finds out what Spike did
The conversation with Spike was set, canon-wise, after the events of "Intervention" but before "Tough Love."

Nice that she'd given Spike a little kindness before the battle.
Based on what we'd seen in S5, I think she would. They were working towards a friendship; I'm simply adding onto it. Thanks for reading!

Tee hee...I'm one of those who did a Spike uses Buffy's blood to close the portal stories. Trust me your take will likely be different from mine and I look forward to reading the rest as it has been very well done thus far.
I enjoyed the switch in the fight where Spike took on Glory while Buffy went up the tower...nice touch! Like the flashback before Buffy wakes. Seems she was starting to have nagging feelings for our boy just as I thought when watching the end of S5.

The timing on Buffy has always been awkward; you don't know what scenes take place parallel in time and what scenes come before/after each other. All I did was flip two scenes in the timeline, and it made all the difference. :) Thanks for reading and reviewing!

I'm happy that you're considering 246.How many chapters does this story have?
I haven't the slightest idea! It's mostly outlined, but you get the new chapters as soon as I've finished writing and betaing them. I'm fairly certain it's going to be under twenty, but stranger things have happened; I once had a fic that was supposed to be a four-or-five chapter smutbiscuit, but it ended up getting a plot and becoming a twenty-seven chapter fic. So...who knows?

A while back, when I was trying to figure out what to write, I did indeed paw through the challenges on the site. I like the idea of 246, and might pick that up sometime in the future...after Chirality is done, of course. It owns me, it really does. :P I'm glad you're keeping up with the story! (And no, I really don't mind that you're reviewing again. :P)

lol you a/n yah i have seen a few others with spike being the hero but this one caught my eye quicker then any of them. It is intresting and i LOVED the flash back sceen. loved it. I will deffentially be reading more as soon as you get it out here

Think I may have seen one other fic with this premise, but as I recall, it wasn't all that well written, so I never finished it. I can't think of the title or author. This story, on the other hand, is extremely well written and has me very intrigued. I'm really looking forward to your next update which I'm sure you're gonna post real soon. Shameless begging here. :)

there's really only a few other fics where spike jumps instead of buffy, and none just exactly like this so far...but i love this one, i really do...the flashback was so sweet...very nice, looking forward to more :)

The idea of Spike's taking Buffy's blood and sacrificing himself in her stead has been done before; but everyone has their own interpretation on what could have happened after that and your story seems to be on its own unique track, so I say "go for it!" LOL

Well, I think it's safe to say that I have probably read most of the other "Spike jumps instead" stories; at least the B/S ones. And if my memory hasn't completely abandoned me, I can tell you that your version is already vastly different from all of them. Can't remember a single one that had Dawn still chained up, Buffy unconsious from fighting Doc, Spike drinking from her wound (not biting her), and Dawn not trusting him in that situation. That combination made your fic unique right from the start. So I'd say don't worry about it too much, and have fun writing it.
As far as one can tell after two chapters, this is excetionally well written, and you seem to have a great grip on the character-voices. Makes me look forward to reading more. The dream-sequence was a fab idea, this way, if it turns out that Buffy takes Spike's death hard, we'll know that it isn't just because of his final sacrifice. It always makes me sad to think that he has to die to get someone to care about him. Gives me hope for the future to think that if she cares, it'll be because she really SAW him while he was still around, not just via the famous 20-20 hindsight.

I think I adore you. I just can't think of a reason why a cognizant Buffy would let Spike drink from her (or Dawn), let alone jump; despite the fact that she might not like Spike (though we all know that's a lie :P), it's not in her nature to let others take the fall for her. And as much as Dawn might like Spike (although I don't think that really shows until S6, when Buffy is gone), to see him effectively hurting her sister is not something she would be okay with, even after she realizes why he did what he did.

Well, I've seen a few stories kinda along the same lines, Spike jumping instead, but I think you are going at it in an innovative way. Don't let go of it, at any rate. I'm enjoying the story.
I hope it's innovative; I really don't want to rehash what's already been written. And worry not; I have no plans of letting go of this fic. It's driving me crazy that way; it won't go away until it's written. :) Thanks for reading!

While it is true that there are a few stories out there that have Spike jump instead of Buffy or Dawn, that does not mean that your story isn't good. I like this story and I'm glad that you are going to finish this. I can't wait to see what happens next and hope that you update soon.
One of my personal pet peeves is abandoned fics. I never *ever* post a fic unless it's mostly outlined and I have every intention of finishing it. I've been hooked on more than one abandoned fic in my time. :P Thanks for reading!

I`ve read a short story with Spike jumping of the tower,but that was it,just a one chapter story.I really like this twist and I will absolutely follow your story. I really liked the part (last chapter) with Dawn`s eyes looking at Spike. Keep the chapters coming,really want to know what Buffy`s reaction to Spike jumping of the tower is going to be:)
I honestly think that while Dawn likes Spike -- although this becomes more apparent in S6 canon when Buffy's gone -- she's fiercely protective of Buffy, and having seen Spike drink her blood...she's not about to forgive that. At least, not yet. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
