“I’ll be fine, love. It’s you who’ll grow old and die.”
That's not sort of a thing I'd like to hear before sleep :)

"There’s no tonic, no potion. This is what I am. Thought you knew that.”
Can Buffy accept it?

mmm, I like this conversation! it's all bittersweet and...I'm left not sure whether I'd prefer him to turn her or let her go her natural life...this might be one of the INCREDIBLY RARE instances where I want a happily-forever ending, though the bittersweetness of the alternative is remarkably attractive as well.

good thing I don't have to choose, huh? I can just sit back and enjoy whatever you have in mind *massages your evil lil brain*

Oh how I love this pair. She really is accepting what he is because she knows WHO he is and loves him. He loves her too but can't see how to be different than he has always been. I think they have a really good chance because the both actually do want each other when all s said and done.

LOVELY,
Kathleen
You're right, Kathleen ... I think these crazy kids *do* have a chance. :)

Glad you're enjoying!

Oooooh - great chapter. Sweet, scary Spike and pushy Buffy. That last line is a wrench - for Buffy and us!

Love Spike's twisted sense of right and wrong.. "You kill people"---"People Die" Yet she is worried about the Villagers and Torches.. And his ending.. that she will grow old and die is suppose to be consoling? LOL

Waiting to see if "bagged" comes up. Even though he has now brought up.. don't try to change me and I'll stay.

And BTW.. Chpt. 7-Spike's comparison between him and Owen would have Buffy stunned-the only difference was he died in an alley.. and that Owen did care more than she knew.. Sad

Enjoying.
Glad you liked that - this Spike doesn't have much of a moral compass. :)

And yeah, Buffy knows Spike in some ways, and he's still a total mystery in others. But that's canon, too, I think.

Aye, there's the rub.

I love this story. So much. It works so, so well. I really don't know what to say beyond that!
Thanks, Coquine! I appreciate you saying just that!

Bittersweet, that's what really describes them.
