Being William Pratt by Verity Watson
Chapter: Epilogue: The Final Curtain

So - I've recced this series twice recently, and had to do a reread of his last one just to satsfy an itch. Still loved it, the perfect mix of angst and bliss, with the only logical ending it could have.  Not usually a fan of non-slayer Buffy, but your wonderful Spike saves it completely and Buffy is still very Buffy.

Was trying to remember your name so I could rec this series on EF, but failed at everything excpet "Meet the Pratts" which I quickly looked up on the BSV. And now have spent a good bit of what should be a very busy and productive day rereading the entire series.  And I still think it is amazing.

This story is very moving.  I've been reading Spuffy for a few years now, but have never discovered this gem.  Thanks so much for sharing.  Read all in one sitting.

Some of it was hard, very hard, for me to read.  But spot on in its accuracy of grief over the loss of a child.  I lost my son 9 months ago, and it doesn't get any easier.  Luckily for me, I have a wonderful partner, and we are learning to deal with it minute by minute together.

Ahh. I hate you for making me cry so much! :(

Wonderful alternate universe. You captured the characters for this alternate universe perfectly. How you eventually brought each character in despite of the different circumstances... brilliant. Your Spike especially was very well done. Delicously evil, yet still likable.

After reading the entire series, I can see that you are very talented, and there isn't any constructive criticism that I can give that won't come with time and experience. Brilliant. Well Done!

Wow.. it's 5am and i finally finished this entire series and i've never felt so sad and lonely before except when i had to go to my childhood friends funeral when i was 16. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad. For you it's probably good, knowing you've reached your reader at such an emotional and personal level.

I kind of wish i didn't read this last part because i don't want to go to sleep all depressed and lonely. I hate you and love you at the same time for this beautiful work of fiction. Hope you continue to write more but maybe a little less depressing.

Buffy is gone and maybe all the good in me is gone.

The truce and the love lasted decades.  It was a wonderful saga of acceptance and caring.

When Buffy dies, Spike feels free to retun to his true nature of demonhood.  It is a fitting end to this unusual tale of love.

Well, one of best fics I´ve ever read :) All 3, though it´s sad and I kind of hoped that he will turn her. And I have to say, I love the end.
“Hi,” she says. “Mind if I join you?”
I smile hungrily. "Please do."

Ever thought about some Spike stories about his un-life without Buffy? :)

I'm not much of a reviewer, but I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this series. I read it all straight through...and its almost 6am now! LOL Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for staying up all night to read! I really appreciate the review. :) And I know what you mean ... I never used to write reviews myself, until I started writing and realized how addictive it is to hear from a reader.

I'm sorry it had to end too. :)I have really enjoyed this series. I love that you did something so unique. It was a really moving romance while never bowing to any conventions and I was also thrilled that Spike was still Spike despite the story taking place in such a different verse. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Well, I loved it! I found it awesomely romantic that he stayed with her through her life and for the most part, didn't kill people. Hah. Most writers avoid the age issue and I found it refreshing that you embraced the obvious problems to be found in the human/vampire relationship. And while yes, this story is weird in that it is fabulously unique in tone, there is a reality that you have here that you embrace much better than the Buffyverse fandom really does. It's strangely believable, both emotionally and situationally. Particularly the end - the last line was exactly right. I smiled. Soooo...what's next?

I just read this series from beginning to end, and though your writing style is a bit different I throughly enjoyed each story. I almost was not going to continue on with the third part as I detest a first person perspective, but you did a wonderful job of keeping it interesting.

You could have ended it with Meet The Pratt's and it would have been a great fic. But I'm glad you continued on with it. I was surprised by the fact that I cried in the end. I didn't think it would happen but the obit and his recounting of their last moments got to me.

The beauty of it is that you took me immediately from tears to a smile on my face with the last line. *I smile hungrily. "Please do."* What a brilliant way to end it. Well done!

I love the way this ended. The trade paper obituary was oddly appropriate for the circumstance.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the ride! Thanks for the excellent story! And also, thanks for leaving Spike his bloodthirsty side. ;)

I know I've slacked in the reviewing of the last couple of chapters, but rest assured I have read and loved every one. "Perfectly" is the only way I can describe the way this ended. Of course I don't mean that as in "fairytale" or anything, as this story was so much better than any fairytale, but it was perfect in its imperfection. Did Spike learn anything from his loving Buffy? Possibly not. Is he going to move on with his unlife? Probably so. Were Spike and Buffy happy during their relatively short time together? Absolutely. And that's certainly nothing at which to scoff. What a beautiful, macabre story. Bravo!

Sad that this had to end too, but it did have to - this was the only option that would've sat right I think. Thanks so much for this trilogy - they are truly wonderful, and very unique.

I'm sorry too, but this last chapter was trly breathtaking. Thank god I'm alone at work so that nobody can see me cry :'(

True to themselves stright thru til the end. I've told you before that I've loved this story from the beginning, the middle and now its end. If this is your idea of one of your wierd stories, I can only say, are you hiding anymore "wierd" stuff that you aren't sharing? Again, thank you for sharing this great story with us.

fantastic ending to a fine tale. thank you. loved the paragraph that contained "-finally told her – I loved her. My only regret is...."

*dies* It always makes me so sad when I read about Buffy growing old and dying.

But this saga of fics had been amazing, I loved all of it. (even the sad dying part)

I also really like how he went back to square one when she died, alot of people would play the "he stayed good to honour her memory" angle. while romantic, it's not realistic given that he's a demon. Kudos.

I really like how you tied it up. Spike changed for love but is still the same as ever at the core. How he chooses to live now will be just that....choice, not instinct or a leash. Love his pride being with her even as an older...much older woman. Just loved the entire series. So glad you expanded.

I loved it and I hated it! Loved it because it was one of the more realistic stories I read about a vampire, and because it was still a great love story - especially the part about staying with her to the end - that seems like such a Spike like thing to do. Hated it because it was so realistic. Going back to his prowling ways after she's gone, also a very Spike like thing to do.

I'm a bit sorry it had to end, too; but it did so beautifully. Thank you for sharing this unique and different look at them.

Quality throughout, hon. Very, very real. They did what they wanted, they lived together, and now Spike goes on. Excellent job of Buffy's side feeling transitory while Spike is everlasting. And yet, there was love.

12/11/2007 10:14 pm
Loved this story, thank you! I really like the ending, it provides a continuity for Spike that acknowledges his immortaility. He had a set of behaviors for the time he was with Buffy, but that was only a long interlude in his longer life. A great time for all, and now it's back to reality. Thanks again!

Ah, I'm sorry it's over! This story has been awesome!

So sweet, so perfect, and so sad an ending all at once. I'm glad she never asked to be turned, though. And how like Spike to immediately drift back to what he was before Buffy. This Spike didn't change for love, he just put a truce up for love. "I smile hungrily." Perfect.

Cheated.. read the ending first. Had to love her to stay with her until 88. Not able to say it until the end though. Too much of a human emotion.

But still the predator and Buffy was a little twisted to love and want that in him.

So will the pretty blonde be lunch or luck out and be the next Buffy? Maybe he will show her his paintings. Although I feel they were of Buffy.. from beginning to end. Something she would't have wanted to see.. something he would want to have as a tribute to her.

Enjoyed.

Amazing story; sorry to see it end; maybe you should look into reincarnation? That way they can be together forever! LOL! Seriously though, absolutely loved it; the fact that Spike is still and always unapologetically a vampire and that Buffy accepts him like that, is incredible, and ware sorely missed during the show! Bravo!
