It was wearying watching their unappreciative backs. But he never slept now, so there was plenty of time. He’d promised her he’d look after Niblet. That was the easy part. But somehow, however much he wanted to, he’d found he couldn’t stand aside and watch her friends walk into danger every night.
And so he started worrying – trying to get to the vamps before their bungling patrols blundered into death; worrying when the Scoobies came home late from work or college; worrying about who they were sodding well with at the Bronze or who they’d met in the mall.
But tonight at least they were all safely in bed and he could sit looking at the photo he didn’t need to keep his memory fresh
