Two years after NFA, Buffy is about to leave the country when she sees Spike on TV. Thought to be dead, he’s anything but - except he has no memories of who or what he once was. Buffy decides to return to California in hopes of seeing Spike again. She finds herself falling in love with a man who calls himself John, who has found contentment in a career he loves and in a new lifestyle that would have been impossible for him to be a part of in the past. It isn’t long, though, before their budding relationship is threatened when the secrets of their past come out.

Buffy returns from the dead haunted by a little girl in a cave crying out for her, needing her. Unsure of where or when the child Kaia is from, she turns to Willow for help to contact her. Willow goes one step further, sending Buffy into the past. Now she has to find her way home. Can Spike find her before something terrible happens? Spike reflects on his life, eighty years after Buffy has passed. This story happens at the end of Season 5. Buffy was never resurrected by Willow.

Set during Tabula Rasa, a brief snafu in the spell Willow performed causes Giles and Spike to be hurled back in time to the places they desire to revisit the most; Spike goes back a few years earlier during Willow’s “will be done” fiasco, and Giles to London in 1853, where he meets a young, beautiful woman named Anne.

Spike's attempt at a non-sexual birthday gift has unexpected consequences. Things heat up when the trio gets involved.
